Hello, I'm Rachel.
I'm a freelance illustrator and 2021 Association of Illustrators Mentee creating modern and accessible line-based art with a touch of humour. My background is in retail stationery, including designing in-house at Paperchase for 6 years. Growing up in Devon, I moved to London to study Foundation Art & Design at Central Saint Martins, going on to achieve a 2:1 in BA Design at Goldsmiths, University of London.
Collaborating with clients to create purpose-driven illustrations is what I love to do most. My design process starts with a chat with the client, often by video call, where I find out as much as I can about their vision for the project. Then I start with visual research, pulling together a moodboard inspirational colours, shapes, and images from exhibitions, books, and online. I usually send this to the client along with 1 or 2 rough sketches. Once approved, I draw the illustration with my favourite UniPin Fineline and scan in, cleaning and adjusting the balance in Adobe Photoshop to get it just right. I add colour using Adobe Illustrator, using photographs as reference along with the initial moodboard and brief.
I’d be delighted to show you my full portfolio – get in touch to let me know what you’re looking for.
