Ampersand

For me it was very important to make this piece about inclusivity. I was invited by the client to interpret the character ‘&’ as a symbol of connection.

I actively seek to identify the everyday discrimination around me and a big part of my life right now is about re-assessing my lifestyle, relationships, and interactions with the world. Finding ways to be more inclusive and to use my white privilege constructively.

The progress Pride flag designed in 2018 by Daniel Quasar includes black and brown stripes to represent marginalised LGBTQ+ people of colour, and pink, light blue and white from the transgender pride flag. I’ve used these colours as my palette and the central ampersand is pink, one of the main colours in the bisexual flag.
